Words to wise
By Dan Dunn
Special to the Daily Press

The movie: Wordplay
The director: Patrick Creadon
The stars: Will Shortz, Bill Clinton, Jon Stewart, Bob Dole, Mike Mussina, The Indigo Girls

In an effort to “sex up” his excellent documentary about eggheads whose shared passion is solving crossword puzzles, director Patrick Creadon utilized an eleven-letter word for famous people. The “celebrities” extolling the virtues of this popular pastime include Bill Clinton, Jon Stewart, Bob Dole, Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina and The Indigo Girls. The star of the film is Will Shortz, the crossword editor at The New York Times since 1993. Highlights include every hilarious thing Stewart says, and Clinton explaining how the same principals used to solve crosswords can be applied to governance.

(Rated PG. Running time: 84 minutes)
