'Solicitation’ headed for NYC

Playwrights 6, the critically acclaimed and only playwright-managed theatre company in Los Angeles, will present a one-night-only benefit performance of “Solicitation,” a new play by Gib Wallis that is bound for The New York International Fringe Festival.
The benefit evening of Wallis’ full-length play will be presented at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Powerhouse Theatre, 3116 Second St., between Rose Avenue and Marine Street, just off Main Street in Santa Monica. There is a suggested donation of $15 or pay-what-you-can. A reception with food and refreshments follows. For information, call (323) 860-6625 or visit www.SolicitationThePlay.com.
“Solicitation,” which focuses on the relationships between two men and a call girl, will be staged as part of The New York International Fringe Festival, Aug. 11-28. Wallis developed the work in Playwrights 6’s Writers/Actors workshop, which meets twice a month at Celebration Theatre in Hollywood. Wallis presented a shorter, staged reading of the piece in 2004.
“I can’t think of a better way to send this play to the New York Fringe,” says actor-playwright Gib Wallis. “This play would have languished in the bottom drawer as one long scene without the P6 writers and actors to nurture and support me creatively during its development.”
The director is Nancy Hendrickson and the actors are Ciro Barbaro, Carolann DiPirro and Wallis. The production team includes director Nancy Hendrickson, composer Kevin Ferrel, set designer Craig Napoliello and lighting designer Meghan Marrer.
In its short history, Playwrights 6 productions have earned several L.A. Weekly Theatre Award nominations and Backstage West Garland Award honorary mentions. Playwrights 6 productions have also made several “Critics Top 10” lists and garnered several “Critic’s Picks.”
