On Saturday, Sept. 23, at 8:47 p.m., Santa Monica Police officers responded to the 1400 block of Wilshire Blvd. — Blockbuster Video — regarding a suspect in custody for allegedly stealing DVDs. When officers arrived, they spoke with an employee, who said he saw the suspect enter the store and remove yellow, magnetic security-strips from several DVDs and leave the store without paying for the discs. The employee detained the suspect outside of the store and held him until police arrived. The suspect was taken into custody by the SMPD and booked at the Santa Monica Jail for commercial burglary and a probation violation. He was identified as Mark Anthony Slider, 43, a transient. No bail was set.
On Saturday, Sept. 24, at 2:50 a.m., police responded to the 900 block of Third Street regarding a prowler. When officers arrived, they spoke with a woman who said she was in her bathroom and heard noises outside of the window. When she looked out, she said she saw a man standing by her bathroom window. She immediately called police. When officers arrived, they located the suspect nearby and placed him under arrest for prowling. The suspect was identified as Jason Robert Thompson, 36, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $5,000.
On Friday, Sept. 22, at 5:40 p.m., police responded to the 2600 block of Lincoln Boulevard — Albertsons — regarding a theft suspect in custody. When officers arrived, they spoke to a store employee who said the suspect was seen walking through the store removing items from the shelves, opening them and eating them as he browsed. It was estimated the suspect consumed $24.69 worth of food and candy, police said. When confronted, the suspect had no money in his possession and was arrested for commercial burglary. He was identified as Timothy Claire White, 53, a transient. His bail was set at $20,000.
On Friday, Sept. 22, at 7:31 p.m., police responded to the 1600 block of Cloverfield Boulevard — Ralphs — regarding a theft suspect in custody. When officers arrived, they spoke with an employee who said that a witness saw the suspect steal a 24-ounce can of beer and place it in his trousers, proceeding to walk out of the store without paying. Once confronted by employees, the suspect began to struggle, police said. After about five minutes of fighting, officers arrived and placed the suspect in custody. He was booked for strong arm robbery and commercial burglary. The can of beer was recovered. The suspect was identified as Preston Wayne Brumfield, 47, a transient. No bail was set because of a probation violation, police said.
On Saturday, Sept. 23, at 11:45 a.m., police responded to the 1300 block of Fourth Street —Washington Mutual — regarding a woman suspected of fraud. When officers arrived, they spoke to a bank employee who said the suspect was attempting to withdraw $5,000 from an account that had a fraudulent deposit. The bank confirmed the deposit was fraudulent and the suspect was arrested for attempted grand theft. She was identified as Latoyer Shantee Clark, 24, of Los Angeles. Her bail was set at $20,000.
On Thursday, Sept. 21, at 6:10 a.m., police responded to the 1200 block of Third Street — Adidas — regarding a report of a trespasser. When officers arrived, they arrested a man who was on the property without permission. He was taken into custody and booked for trespassing. He was identified as John Marshal Treseder, 57, a transient. His bail was set at $1,250. He also had a warrant for his arrest for loitering in a public parking structure, police said.
On Monday, Sept. 18, at 8:31 p.m., police responded to the 1600 block of Ocean Avenue regarding a report of vandalism. When officers arrived, they contacted a witness who said she was sitting in her residence when she heard noises outside her window. She looked out and said she saw two men spray-painting a wall. She notified police and the two suspects were arrested and booked for vandalism. One suspect was a juvenile, 14 years of age, who was released to a guardian. The other suspect was identified as Michael Davenport, 18, of Duarte. His bail was set at $66,000. He was also detained for violating his probation and for two warrants, police said.
