Didn’t it feel good to get out of the house last weekend? I don’t know about you, but between the Pico Art Walk, all those openings at Bergamot and the shopping I did at Gracie, I think I walked about 20 miles. Maybe I burnt enough calories that I can eat some Halloween candy next weekend.

Speaking of Halloween, Powerhouse Theatre Company gives us a head start on the holiday of spooks with a new Angus Oblong play opening this weekend. It’s your last chance to see City Garage’s “The Bacchae,” and on Sunday, there’s a one-afternoon-only Stravinsky performance at Miles. Fairview Library’s celebrating their 50th birthday ... and since my feet are still hurting, you’ll find me sitting through it all.

Angus Oblong’s “The Victorian Hotel”
A young couple checks into a beautiful old hotel for a romantic weekend getaway but the resident ghosts and ghouls provide them instead with a raucous and spine-tingling adventure. Celebrated eccentric and illustrator Angus Oblong (Adult Swim’s “The Oblongs”) has created a living cartoon, and The Rogues, a collective of multi-disciplinary artists and designers, bring it gleefully to life with a mix of live actors, puppets and digital media in the Rogue’s signature “hyper-theatrical” style.

Fairview Library is 50
The Mighty Echoes perform at Fairview Library
Join the friends and neighbors of the Fairview Library on Saturday, Oct. 21, starting 10:30 a.m., to celebrate the library’s 50th birthday. America’s favorite a cappella doo wop singers extraordinaire — The Mighty Echoes — will be lending their spectacular voices to the occasion at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., while other events include a puppet show at 10:30 a.m. for ages 4 and up, and freestyle hula hoop at 11:30 a.m. Fifties style attire optional.

Kane, Welch and Kaplan at McCabe’s
McCabe’s offers up Appalachian balladry from Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch and Fats Kaplin performing songs from their intensely intimate album Lost John Dean. As if that’s not enough to get you out of the house, you also get stellar singer-songwriter Fracasso, one of Austin’s best kept musical secrets. How can you possibly stay away?

Last chance for The Bacchae at City Garage
It’s closing weekend for City Garage’s stinging contemporary production of Charles Mee’s “The Bacchae.” In the hands of director Frederique Michel, it’s a darkly disturbing venture casting us back into a state of nature that is animalistic, brutish and tragic.

Closing Oct. 22
Admission $20; Students/Seniors $10

City Garage can be tricky to find but it’s definitely worth it. Their address 1340 1/2 Fourth Street Alley, between the Third Street Promenade and Fourth Street in Santa Monica, and between Santa Monica Boulevard and Arizona Avenue. There is convenient parking in the neighboring Parking Structure #3, located on Fourth Street.
