Beanery burns candle at both ends

By Daily Press staff

Barney’s Beanery, the venerable late-night roadhouse that boasts of pancakes, Belgian waffles, sausages, eggs and more, now serves breakfast during weekday mornings.

After 86 years of Barney’s Beanery tradition, the Santa Monica Promenade outpost of the original Hollywood roadhouse is now open at 9 a.m., Monday through Friday, in addition to their regular Saturday and Sunday hours.

“We’ve had so many customers asking us why we don’t open in the morning before the work day starts, so we’re breaking from tradition and greeting the day with a fresh early-morning staff,” said David Houston, Barney’s co-owner.

Running the gamut from “Eggs Benedict” to “Pot Roast and 3 Eggs” to “Skins with Corned Beef Hash,” early morning risers have a full complement of items to choose from, as well as the rest of the roadhouse menu.
