Santa Claus is coming to town early this year ... and Santa Monica’s firefighters and police officers are leading the way this Sunday, Dec. 10. Santa and his public safety helpers will be distributing good cheer and thousands of candy canes as part of the annual “Candy Cane Drive.” Everyone is invited to join in the Candy Cane Drive.
Santa’s scheduled stops are as follows:
- 10:30 a.m. - 10:50 a.m. — Douglas Park, California Avenue and 25th Street
- 11 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. — Christine Reed Park, California Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard
- 11:25 a.m. - 11:50 a.m. — Third Street Promenade and Wilshire Boulevard
- 1:15 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. — Virginia Avenue Park, 2200 Pico Boulevard
- 1:45 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. — Marine Park, Marine and 17th streets
- 2:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. — Clover Park, Ocean Park Boulevard and 25th Street
Santa Monica children are encouraged to look and listen for the lights and sirens of the public safety vehicles, while parents are encouraged to bring their cameras.

Library presents a power workshop
Santa Monica Public Library presents “Getting Started with Solar.” The program will take place at the Fairview Branch of the Santa Monica Public Library, 2101 Ocean Park Blvd., from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
“Getting Started with Solar” will cover the basics of how to reduce utility bills and get a great return by investing in energy efficiency and solar power. In this practical workshop, three expert panelists will talk about the costs and benefits of solar systems as well as how to select the appropriate system for a residence or business. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. Panelists include Stuart Cooley, the City of Santa Monica’s Energy Efficiency Engineer, Mark Smith of Solar Forward and Ted Bavin of All-Valley Solar. This program is offered in cooperation with the City of Santa Monica Energy and Green Building Programs Office.
