Capitalizing on its unique location at Santa Monica Airport, the Ruskin Group Theatre is proud to present “Overview” — an exhibit of aerial photographs by pilot-photographers Scott Tucker and Griff Hoerner.

Showcasing images taken from the air all over the Los Angeles area — including Venice, Simi Valley, Santa Monica and Calabasas — the exhibit will run from Dec. 9 through Feb. 28.

An opening reception, with hot apple cider and gingerbread, will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in conjunction with the opening of the Ruskin production of “The Best of the L.A. Café Plays.” The theater is located at 3000 Airport Drive at Santa Monica Airport.

Tucker and Hoerner are both based at Santa Monica Airport. Tucker, a long-time pilot, built and flies his own Long E-Z aircraft. Griff got his start as a line boy 50 years ago for Bell Air Services, which was housed in what is now Ruskin.

The two pilots, who say they have always been inspired with the view from above and have wanted to share this perspective, worked together to create the art show, each taking turns as pilot and photographer.

“The interplay between flying and photography is the essence of this show,” the artists say in a statement. “How our world appears from above has been a source of wonderment even before the Indian drawings on the plains of Naza Peru.

“Most of our photos were not planned in the usual sense,” they add. “We did not go up to photograph people at the top of the hill, nor the undulating curves of the California coastline or freeway overpasses, much less the loneliness of the unattended carnival.”

Hours of the exhibit are from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Ample free parking is available. For further information, call (310) 397-3244 or go to http://www.ruskingrouptheatre.com.
