This holiday season, Santa Monicans are being urged to use their dollars to protect the environment. In October, Santa Monica launched the Green Business Certification Program (GBC), which certifies and recognizes green businesses in the community. A green business conserves resources, protects the environment, benefits the local economy and prevents pollution from entering our air and the Santa Monica Bay.
Santa Monica would like to introduce the six businesses that have gone green and become the first participants in this program.
- The Library Alehouse — featuring microbrews, organic snacks and other foods.
- The Ambrose — a luxury hotel.
- Patagonia — retailer of recreational clothing.
- Euphoria Love RAWvolution — healthy vegan food.
- Gladsteain, Neandross and Associates — studies in alternative transportation and energy.
- Co-Opportunity — natural foods grocer.
Since the launch of the GBC program, several new businesses have signed on to begin the certification process. A certified green business can be identified by looking for the green business logo or by visiting www.smgbc.org.
