Saturday, Dec. 9, at 6:40 a.m. Officers responded to the 1200 block of Pico Boulevard for a report of auto burglary. A man had heard a strange noise outside his home and discovered the suspect breaking into his car. The suspect fled the scene after stealing a navigation system from the victim’s car. Officers detained the suspect at the corner of Euclid Street and PIco Boulevard, where he was positively identified by the victim. Upon further investigation, officers discovered the suspect was responsible for several auto break-ins around the area on the same day. Other victims identified the stolen items, which included a cell phone charger, a bottle of cologne, DVDs and a checkbook. He was arrested and charged with burglary. He was identified as Jose David Ortiz, 21, of Los Angeles. There was no bail set because he is on probation.
Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 10:55 p.m. Santa Monica Police Officers responded to 432 Wilshire Blvd. — Chevron Gas Station — for a report of a man acting irrational and refusing to leave private property. The suspect left before officers arrived because he noticed the attendant was on the phone with police. The officers later detained the suspect at the 1200 block of Fourth Street. When officers noticed the suspect holding a cell phone, they began questioning him about how he had attained the cell phone. They determined the suspect was in possession of stolen property when the story of how he received the cell phone began to change. He was arrested and charged with receiving and/or being in possession of stolen property. He was identified as Nick Bradden Andros, 40, a transient from Santa Monica. His bail was set at $22,964.
Friday, Dec. 8, at 6:45 p.m. Officers responded to a report of strong arm robbery at the 1400 block of Fourth Street. A woman was walking along Fourth Street when the suspect reached from behind and grabbed a cell phone out of her hand. The woman ran after the suspect for a few blocks until the suspect threatened to harm her. When police arrived at the 1400 block of Alley 2, located between Santa Monica Boulevard and Broadway, the suspect admitted she had stolen the cell phone, but threw it away and was unsure of its whereabouts. She was arrested and charged with strong arm robbery. She was identified as Anna Lisa Polk, 18, of Long Beach. Her bail was set at $50,000.
