Woman fights off attacker in pier restroom
Sunday, Dec. 10, at 11:35 p.m. Santa Monica Police officers patrolling the Santa Monica Pier heard a woman screaming for help from a bathroom. Officers made contact with the woman, who said she walked into the women’s restroom when she was approached by a man who grabbed her and threw her into a bathroom stall, where he tried to get her to give him oral sex. When she refused, the man allegedly punched her in the face several times. The woman continued to fight back and began to yell. The man then gave up and ran. He was apprehended a short time later and transported to the Santa Monica Jail, where he was booked for attempted rape and assault. He was identified as Joseph Andrew Miller, 41, a transient. No bail was set because of a probation violation.
Saturday, Dec. 16, at 5:05 a.m. Officers patrolling the beach parking lot in the 1400 block of Pacific Coast Highway noticed a car with expired tags and illegal tint leaving the area. Officers made a traffic stop and during a subsequent search of the car, found glass pipes used to smoke crack cocaine and a small amount of the drug. Two suspects in the car were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, as well as for violating probation and parole. The suspects were identified as Charles Alfred Holt, 46, and Renee Denise Sharp, 40, of Moreno Valley. No bail was set.
Thursday, Dec. 14, at 8 p.m. Officers responded to the 1400 block of Santa Monica Boulevard regarding a report of an assault in progress on a Big Blue Bus. When officers arrived, they spoke with the bus driver, who said a man walked on the bus and approached another rider and told them to get up and move to another seat. A good Samaritan stepped in and was punched in the face by the suspect, splitting his lip. A fight ensued and the bus driver pulled over and ordered the suspect to leave. Armed with a description, officers were able to apprehend the suspect a few blocks away from the bus. The suspect was booked for mayhem. He was identified as Garvey Frank Fulton, Jr., 46, of Mar Vista. His bail was set at $100,000. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he had his lip stitched shut, police said.
On Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 3:30 p.m. Officers patrolling the Third Street Promenade were flagged down by a customer at the hat store Lids. The customer told police that he set his sunglasses down on a counter in the store while trying on baseball caps when a man grabbed them and walked out. Apparently, the man tried to hide the glasses in newspaper, but the victim saw him and tried to chase him down. Once outside the store, the victim called the officers over and the suspect was arrested and the sunglasses recovered. The suspect was charged with petty theft. He was identified as Bruce Weberg, 58, a transient. His bail was set at $16,419 because of six warrants, police said.
On Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 12:35 p.m. Officers responded to the 800 block of Hill Street to assist paramedics who were trying to revive a woman passed out in her car. The woman regained consciousness and was treated by paramedics. An investigation by police revealed the woman was in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. A preliminary test revealed the substance to be cocaine. The woman was charged with drug possession and for driving under the influence. She was identified as Alison Irene Ditlove, 24, of Beverly Hills. Her bail was set at $10,000.
On Monday, Dec. 11, at 12:15 p.m. Officers responded to the 2400 block of Main Street — Uroborus Mode Gallerie — regarding a report of shoplifting. When officers arrived, they spoke with store employees who said a woman walked into the women’s clothing store, grabbed several items from the racks and went into a dressing room. A short time later, the woman walked out of the dressing room empty handed, the employees said. Employees checked the dressing room and saw no clothes, but several security tags. When they tried to confront the woman, she ran out of the store, across Main Street and jumped a chain-link fence, leaving some clothes behind, police said. Employees joined police in a search of the area and located the woman a few blocks away with some of the stolen merchandise in her possession. She was arrested and charged with grand theft. She was identified as Susan Fecher, 25, of Venice. Her bail was set at $20,000. The merchandise recovered, which included several scarfs, shirts and other clothing, was valued at $435, police said.
Sunday, Dec. 10, at 8:20 p.m. Officers responded to the 300 block of Colorado Avenue — Macy’s — regarding a report of shoplifting. When officers arrived, they spoke with store security who said a woman walked into the young men’s section of the store, grabbed several items off the racks, including jeans and T-shirts, and went into a dressing room. A short time later, she exited the dressing rooms without any items in her hand, police said. A clerk checked the dressing room and found several security censors had been removed. The woman was detained as she exited the store. She was taken to an office and held until officers arrived. She was charged with petty theft. She was identified as Kristina Washington, 22, of Los Angeles. Her bail was set at $1,000. The items in her possession were valued at $317.
