Rosendahl elected chair

Pledging to revive a dormant organization and build consensus, Councilmember Bill Rosendahl has been won election as chair of the Southern California Regional Airport Authority (SCRAA).

Members of SCRAA Thursday selected Rosendahl, the Los Angeles councilmember representing LAX, to head the panel.

Gary Ovitt, San Bernandino County Supervisor was named vice-chair.

Rosendahl said he would lead an effort to broaden the organization, bringing in airports, counties, cities and airport neighbors throughout Southern California.

“Regional aviation calls for everyone to have a seat at the table,” Rosendahl said. “As chair of SCRAA, I want to create an open, healthy dialogue in order to find solutions that make sense for everyone.”

Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, who nominated Rosendahl to the chairmanship, praised the selection.

“Bill Rosendahl is the perfect choice to serve as chair,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe. "The participation of the City of Los Angeles and the Councilman’s appointment to be the City’s representative to SCRAA is critical to the organization’s success. We face regional challenges at our airports and we need regional solutions to solve those challenges. Councilman Rosendahl believes that as much as I do and I am looking forward to working with him on SCRAA.”

Rosendahl said he is excited about the chairmanship and the role he will play within the newly re-activated board.

“If we are to make significant gains in the name of regional aviation, we must work together to craft fair and equitable regional solutions,” Rosendahl said. “As chair, I will have the opportunity to ensure that this panel serves as an open, inclusive forum for communities throughout the Southern California region.”

The Southern California Regional Airport Authority, a joint powers agreement between the City of Los Angeles, and the Counties of Los Angeles, San Bernandino, Riverside and Orange, was established in1984. The panel, which works to regionalize air traffic throughout Southern California, became inactive in 2003.

As a result of an historic settlement agreement last year ending LAX expansion, the City of Los Angeles led efforts to revive SCRAA, expand participation beyond the existing membership, and jumpstart efforts to promote regional aviation.
