Green Gardens without water?

Sitting at The Talking Stick on Ocean Park Boulevard, after my volunteering gig at KCRW, an e-mail pops up. It’s an invitation to the second annual Green Gardens Tour-Santa Monica coming up later this month. Last year, I participated in the first garden tour. My favorite garden felt like a secret, lush garden — a vacation far from the city. I can’t wait to go again to see what I’ll experience and learn this time.

My 12-year-olds and I were among the lucky mothers and daughters to attend the first ever “Mother Daughter Spa Day” Feb. 4 at the New Main Library. The moment I saw the notice in the library’s calendar I signed up, and it’s good I did because there was a waiting list to get in.

Where are all the kudos for gay actors playing the straight roles?

As we head toward the Academy Awards ceremony in March and the momentum continues to grow for “Brokeback Mountain,” I keep thinking about the gay and lesbian actors who have convincingly played roles of heterosexual men and woman in TV and film.

Usually, it isn’t difficult for your Imbiber to predict the future when I’m out drinking beer, since my nights on the town almost always involve some sort of ugly altercation outside a bar followed the next day by the nagging thought that I was somehow responsible.

Well, America, here we are, six full years into the George W. Bush Presidency and I, for one, couldn’t be happier with the direction this country is headed.
