CITY HALL IS ONCE AGAIN ON THE wrong track. This time, it’s regarding affordable housing projects. Are these for people of low income, no income or are they for hard-working people who know about birth control? What is affordable, anyway? How does the city choose among millions of people to live in the nice area with new construction. The Pico area is full of low-income housing and plenty of gang violence, I might add. The buildings on 26th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard and the one at 15th Street and Broadway are all so oversized it’s pitiful. One-story buildings with parking lots have been replaced with three and four stories which take up the entire property. What happened to open space management? I saw the article in the Daily Press which showed a wall in the new building at 15th and Broadway. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw what they call art. Aluminum soda and beer cans on the wall — this place is worse than I suspected when driving by it. I just wonder how close to these monsters any of the council members live or if they have friends and family planning to move in? Who benefits from these buildings besides those who live in them?
