Three artist receptions and exhibits open this weekend at a local art gallery. “Estranged” is the name of Lori Earley’s new body of work exhibiting at CoproNason gallery.

Her oil paintings are a combination of classical realistic rendering with a personal element of distortion. Their distortion is derived from her innate desire to render the world she feels as opposed to the world she sees before her. The exhibit will run from March 11 through April 8\. An artist reception will be held on Saturday, March 11, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Copro/Nason Gallery, 2525 Michigan Ave. Also running from March 11 through April 8 is an exhibit from Audrey Kawasaki, who lives in the ordinary world with rules and etiquette. But with a pencil and paintbrush in hand, she creates a fantasy land with no rules or restrictions. Kawasaki’s images come to her when she gets a piece of wood, cuts it down and sands it. She stares into the wood grain and soon it comes alive. She paints in oil so she can smear and rub it into the wood and prefers earthly subtle colors toned down and not too bright.

An artist reception will be held on Saturday, March 11, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The final exhibit is from artist Yosuke Ueno, who originates from Japan. His themes are very cosmic and his alias is SpaceEgg77\. His palette of colors is otherworldly and his themes range from Anne Frank looking down on earth from the heavens to cosmic ducks and magic mushrooms. Bizarre, surreal and thought provoking, conjuring images from another galaxy are words that come to mind.
