# Santa Monica Elks Sponsor Boys and Girls Club Basketball Program

Grady Sain, president of the Jack Showers Foundation of the Santa Monica Elks, recently presented a check for $3,200 to Allan Young, president and chief executive officer of the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica. The contribution makes the Santa Monica Elks the sole sponsor of the entire basketball program for the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica. That includes the traveling expenses for the team.

Sain said many of the professional stars in basketball started in Boys and Girls programs throughout the country.

Doug Randall, exalted ruler of the Santa Monica Elks, said five Santa Monica youngsters placed in the top three in different categories in the district Hoop Shoot finals. At the regional finals in Lancaster, Ryan Carter (age group 12-13) placed second with a score of 22 out of 25.

Young was personally commended for starting eight new Boys and Girls Clubs in the area. Don Hopp challenges the floor for Elks
