As part of the celebration of its 75th anniversary, Santa Monica College will present a special feature show, “Einstein’s Universe,” in the college’s Friday night astronomy series in April and May.

The feature show takes a look at Einstein’s theory of relativity, which 100 years ago launched a scientific revolution that led to the discovery of warped space, black holes, the Big Bang and more.

“Einstein’s Revolution” is scheduled for 8 p.m. on April 1, 8 and 22 and May 6 and 13.

The guest lecture in April will be “Galactic Train Wrecks.” UCLA researcher Sarah Gallagher will explore the largest collisions in our universe, when galaxies of billions of stars smash together. The guest lecture will be on April 29.

The feature show and guest lecture are at 8 p.m. Each is preceded by “The Night Sky Show,” which re-creates the night sky and provides the latest information on space exploration at 7 p.m.

The astronomy shows are held in the John Drescher Planetarium, which features the state-of-the-art Digistar projection system. It is located on the second floor of Drescher Hall, 1900 Pico Blvd. The guest lecture is in science lecture hall 140.
