THIRD STREET PROMENADE — The International Tourism Association awarded Promenade Maintenance Manager Edward Suburb the “Pride in Performance” award for “outstanding service to community by emphasizing cleanliness and courtesy.”

His work was especially appreciated north of Montana, where you could practically eat off the street it’s so clean.

“NOMA is easy, nothing much happens over there,” he said.

The news came as a surprise to Suburb, who for the last 15 years has never received a raise nor recognition from his supervisors.

“They never have anything good to say, not a word,” Suburb said of his bosses. “All they do is bitch and moan about the bathrooms or a stain or the mess made by those damn Jacarandas, making my life worse than those who lived through the blitzkreig. You know Winston Churchill once said …”

Officials with the ITA presented Suburb with a plaque, $10,000 and a gift certificate for free maid service for a year.
