# SMC Symphony Orchestra to Present Mother's Day Concert May 8

Music will be in the air on Mother’s Day at Santa Monica College The SMC Symphony Orchestra will present a special concert Sunday, May 8, that features the winners of the concerto competition for non-pianists, sponsored by SMC and the Music Teachers’ Association of California, West Los Angeles Branch.

Under the baton of SMC music professor James Smith, the orchestra will perform a program that includes several concertos by such composers as Mozart, Brahms and Koussevitsky, as well as Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Holst’s Jupiter, from The Planets.

The Edgmont Overture will feature guest conductor Fang-Ning Lim, an SMC music student. The featured soloists are all pre-college students: David Manukyan, Isaiah Yu and Judith Yu, all on violin, and Henry Samuels, on bass.

The concert will be held at 4 p.m. in the SMC Concert Hall, 1900 Pico Blvd. Tickets are $10\. Call (310) 434-3000 or (310) 434-4323\. Ranked voting movement still alive
