# Santa Monica College Names 16 Student Athletes of the Year for 2004-05

Sixteen Santa Monica College students — one from each of the campus’ intercollegiate teams — have been named 2004-05 Student Athletes of the Year.

Awards will be presented at the annual awards breakfast sponsored by the SMC General Advisory Board, a community support group, at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, May 19 in the SMC Pavilion, 1900 Pico Blvd. In addition, the college will honor Alexis Lanman, a member of the SMC Cheer Squad, whose coach is Susan Corpus.

The students, selected by coaches, are honored for their academic and athletic achievements. The honorees, and their coaches, are: ■Women’s basketball: Kristine Jensen (Lydia Strong, coach) ■Men’s basketball: Efrem Lawrence (Trevor Shickman, coach) ■Women’s swimming: Denise Tran (Steve Contarsy, coach) ■Men’s swimming: James Parrish (Steve Contarsy, coach) ■Women’s track & field: Lisha Burch (Eric Barron, coach) ■Men’s track & field: Chinedozi Foster (Tommie Smith, coach) ■Women’s volleyball: Claudia Jacobs (Wendy Dreher, coach) ■Men’s volleyball: Brian Schirripa (Mark Lee, coach) ■Football: Charles Searcy (Robert Taylor, coach) ■Women’s cross-country: Maria Bautista (Eric Barron, coach) ■Men’s cross-country: Mo Elmi (Eric Barron, coach) ■Women’s soccer: Liz Angermeier (Aaron Benditson, coach) ■Women’s softball: Amanda Salvestrini (Tamara Ivie, coach) ■Women’s water polo: Sally Sachs (Mike Santo, coach) ■Men’s water polo: Jake Sands (Steve Contarsy, coach) ■Women’s tennis: Masami Hashimoto (Richard Goldenson, coach)
