# Author Susan Casey discusses Great White sharks at Santa Monica Pier Aquarium

Shark tales will be happening in Santa Monica’s front yard this weekend. The Great White sharks that gather each fall in the waters just miles off the coast of San Francisco will be the topic of discussion at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, 1600 Ocean Front Walk.

Susan Casey, author of “The Devil’s Teeth: A True Story of Obsession and Survival Among America’s Great White Sharks,” will be on hand to discuss her book, which is based on her experiences observing one of the world’s largest congregations of Great White sharks that annually surround the Farallone Islands, 30 miles off the San Francisco coast.

Casey’s appearance will follow the 3:30 p.m. shark presentation and feeding at the aquarium’s open shark tank.

The question and answer session at the aquarium will be Casey’s only Los Angeles area stop on a nationwide book tour. The book, published last year by Owl Books, was released in paperback on June 1.

Casey is the development editor of Time Inc., where she was previously an editor at large, as well as the editor of Sports Illustrated Women. She also served as the creative director of Outside magazine. Her writing has appeared in Sports Illustrated, Esquire, Time and Fortune.

Participation in the book question and answer session is free with admission to the aquarium. Admission is free for children 12 and under, and $2 for those 13 and older.
