Academy Award-winning actor, director, writer Warren Beatty and his wife, Annette Bening, will be honored as the 2006 Caritas Award recipients on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Saint John's Health Center Caritas Gala.

The black-tie dinner will be held at the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills. Proceeds raised at the gala will support services and programs at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica.

Beatty and Bening have been longtime friends of Saint John’s, displaying a spirit of charity, compassion and commitment to others.

Also being honored at the event is philanthropist Flora Laney Thornton, who will receive the Spirit of Saint John’s Award for her service and dedication as a Trustee of the Saint John’s Health Center Foundation, as well as for her contributions to the cultural and educational institutions in the community.

The Caritas Gala is hosted by the Saint John's Health Center Foundation and the Irene Dunne Guild, a key support group of the hospital. With a membership of approximately 86 women, the Irene Dunne Guild provides a variety of volunteer services and philanthropic support to Saint John’s.

Proceeds from the Caritas Gala have helped fund the Irene Dunne Guild Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the Maria Shriver Nursery and the new Fast Track unit of the Saint John’s Emergency Department. The Irene Dunne Guild also helped fund the Saint John’s Mobile Blood Donor Center and created the “Angels of the ER” program to provide nonmedical assistance to emergency room patients and their families. This year's gala is co-chaired by guild members Catherine Corlin and Judy Piro.

Past event honorees include Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver, Anthony Hopkins, Martin Sheen, Vin Scully, Robert Wagner, Angela Lansbury, former First Lady Nancy Reagan and Jimmy Stewart.

Tickets for the 2006 Caritas Gala are $425 each. For more information, call Cookie Galanti at Saint John’s Health Center Foundation at (310) 829-8424.
