Pacific Park’s Pirates’ Pier Mini Golf course was developed from stories of former pirates off the California coast from as far back as 1577\. The legend today is incorporated in the nine-hole miniature golf course with wily pirate lore, palm trees, wharf décor and a shipwreck to navigate with a putter. Veterans get opportunity to strut their stuff A local nonprofit agency is looking for employers who want to put veterans to work.

New Directions will host the second annual job fair for veterans on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Directions Regional Opportunity Center in West Los Angeles.

This year’s theme “Employers Helping Americans” is geared toward the Los Angeles area doing its part to recruit skilled veterans, Hurricane Katrina evacuees and others in the community in need of employment.

More than 50 employers and 300 participants are anticipated to attend. Partners supporting New Directions for the event are EDD’s West Los Angeles Job Service Office, VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, LAVEC, Salvation Army, Playa Vista Jobs and 99 Cent Store. The event is free to job-seekers and is open to the public.

New Directions is looking for interested employers to participate. Registration is $50 per table and includes lunch. For more information, call Brigitte Slayton at (310) 914-4045 ext. 201.
