Just how much impact do we humans have on the environment? Explore the answer this month at Santa Monica College. This month SMC is continuing its “Environmental Issues Lecture Series” with two lectures, both free and open to the public. All lectures in the series are at 6:45 p.m. in the science lecture hall 145, 1900 Pico Blvd. Seating is on a first-arrival basis. ■ “The Ecopsychology of Personal and Planetary Healing” will be held Thursday, Nov. 3\. It features SMC psychology professor Dr. Jackie Lanum, who will talk about the roots of new thinking and behavior in the science of ecological psychology. ■ “Effects of Globalization on Biodiversity” will be on Thursday, Nov. 10\. Dr. Hartmut Walter of the UCLA Institute of the Environment raises concerns about globalization’s impact on humans and the environment.

The series is sponsored by SMC’s Center for Environmental and Urban Studies. The center — which is open to the public — features displays, a library and information center, video collection, native garden and other services and activities related to environmental and urban studies. SMC has been offering courses in environmental and urban studies since fall 2001\. For information, call (310) 434-4743.
