The park project has been in the works since 1998, as part of a combined parks and housing development. Next door to the planned park is the 13-unit Hacienda del Mar, a residence for people with disabilities run by United Cerebral Palsy (UCP). UCP renovated the historic 1928 brick Spanish Colonial Revival building, formerly a Los Angeles County Health Facility, and completed the construction in 2003.

The Euclid Park site is located on the east side of the 1500 block of Euclid Street is part of the city’s parks and recreation master plan — a 20-year vision with more than $142 million worth of improvements to Santa Monica’s parks, open spaces and community facilities. Partial funding for the project is coming from the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District.
