A festive birthday celebration will be held to promote peace and raise funds for a youth commission.

Peace activist Jerry Rubin will hold a public “60th Birthday Peace Party and Concert” on Thursday, Dec. 11, at Santa Monica’s 14 Below and Over/Under Sports Grill. The public birthday celebration will be held to promote peace and non-violence in local communities and around the world. The party is also an effort to raise funds to empower youths by establishing an ongoing advisory — Santa Monica Youth Commission.

The birthday festivities will begin with a “Happy Birthday Hour” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Over/Under Sports Grill, which will include a public roasting of Rubin and a cake-cutting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. The cake-cutting will be led by Chris Carter, KLSX FM radio host of “Breakfast With the Beatles.”

At 7 p.m., a birthday party concert will take place at 14 Below that will feature the American Beatles tribute band, Imagine. The concert program also will include several guest performers, musicians and stand-up comedians, as well as peace and environmental speakers and activist celebrities. The concert emcee will be Michael Benner, KPFK-FM radio host of “Inner Vision.”

Admission to the concert is $10\. Concert attendees must be at least 21 years old. There is no age limit or cover for the public roast and cake-cutting ceremony. Food and drinks will be available throughout the fete.

Both 14 Below and Over/Under are located at the corner of 14th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard.
