It is clear from Mr. Kronovet’s letter ( “Prop. 98 is just right for state,” page 4, March 5) that he is neither elderly nor has he ever experienced hardship. The real reason he may be upset about rent control is because he is in real estate; the “small” business he owns. Specifically, apartment sales and management. It really must screw things up if a building comes his way that is under rent control.

So, Mr. Kronovet, stop playing the “true American card” and start owning up to what it really is, the “true Capitalist card,” which some may argue has become the true America, I know. Prop. 98 will help you make more money. From what I have read, you and your family have enough. If that makes me a liberal communist, fine. I would rather see people housed than you able to buy yet another for yourself.

In addition, look at the 13 units you plan to demo in Santa Monica listed on your Web site. You are part of what is making Santa Monica look like “any city USA.” The character and well being of Santa Monica and the people within it is not your concern; you should be ashamed to be running for the (Rent Control) Board. Your bias would make it toxic. (Santa Monicans for Renters Rights) are not the only ones who want you to go away. I do. My guess would be, so do most true residents. Not developers who pretend to be.
