Armed robbery and kidnap suspect apprehended in Santa Monica

According to the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD), on Friday, May 3, at 8:30am, dispatch received a 911 call from the victim of an armed robbery that occurred in the Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) 77th Division, which incorporates Central and Downtown Los Angeles and West Hollywood.

The suspect in the robbery kidnapped the victim after taking the victim’s phone and then drove the victim to Santa Monica. The victim escaped the vehicle, flagged down a passerby, and called for help. SMPD officers responded and formulated a plan to take the suspect into custody. Officers were able to take the individual into custody with no use of force near the intersection of Pico Blvd and 33rd Street. However, a loaded ghost gun was recovered.

LAPD responded and took the suspect to their jail. They will be handling the investigation, booking of the suspect and presentation of the case to the District Attorney.
