# Armed suspect surrenders after multi-hour standoff

A woman has been taken into custody following a five hour standoff with police at a motel on Lincoln Blvd.

The Santa Monica Police Department responded to a potentially armed suspect inside the American Motel on Lincoln Blvd. at about noon on Sunday.

SMPD asked residents to clear the 1200 block of Lincoln after receiving reports of a woman with a gun at the hotel. Guest were been asked to leave their rooms and the street was shut while officers continued to issue commands through a loudspeaker to the barricaded suspect.

Eventually, the female suspect surrendered to SMPD without incident. She was taken into custody and will undergo a mental health evaluation. The street and neighboring blocks was reopened early Sunday evening.
