SAMOHI — Just days before facing one of Southern California’s premiere teams, the Santa Monica High School Vikings have decided to go in a different direction at quarterback.
BRENTWOOD — Turnovers plagued St. Monica’s football team during a 33-18 loss to Brentwood on the road Saturday. St. Monica quarterback Matthew Partyka threw five interceptions on a sweltering day in Brentwood.
ORANGE COUNTY — The Santa Monica High School Vikings football team finally knows the taste of defeat, having lost its first game of the season on the road against Villa Park, 35-29, on Thursday.
BRENTWOOD — When St. Monica football takes the field on Saturday against Brentwood for the first time ever, the Mariners may think they are looking into a mirror.
Oregon State quarterback Ryan Katz, who graduated from Santa Monica High School in 2008, led the Beavers to a 35-28 win over Louisville on Saturday in Corvallis. The win catapulted the Beavers back into the Associated Press top 25 rankings.
CROSSROADS — Looks like the Roadrunners are in the market for a new baseball coach. Co-head coaches Matt Amido and Pat Armstrong announced on Monday that both would be leaving the program, sending Crossroads High School administrators seeking candidates to replace them.
PLAYA DEL REY — A strong defensive effort by St. Monica’s football team and a crucial late-game interception by Jamal Young paced the Mariners to a 21-13 victory over Malibu on Saturday night.
SAMOHI — The search for a new softball coach at Santa Monica High School is over. School officials announced Wednesday that Natalie Adame will replace Debbie Skaggs, who led the team to its first ever California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Division 4 title last season.
PLAY DEL REY — On a St. Monica team stocked with offensive weapons, there is one that Malibu Head Coach Ray Humphrey has his eyes on. St. Monica High School quarterback Matthew Partyka has been the subject of Humphrey’s game planning all week, the coach said.
PACIFIC PALISADES — While most prep football teams are experimenting with new school variations of the spread offense, Palisades High School is going with a decidedly old school tactic: the wishbone.
EL CAJON — Turnovers and miscues foiled St. Monica at Christian of El Cajon on Saturday in a 24-20 loss. St. Monica Head Coach Larry Muno said that although Christian was a formidable team, it was his own side that let the victory slip away.
