The AV Club, a collection of improvisational talent in Southern California, presents their improvised multi-media show called The AV Action News. The AV Club performs Saturdays in August at 8 p.m. at The Westside Eclectic, just off the Santa Monica Promenade.

The AV Club is a collection of comedians, actors, filmmakers and technicians that perform their original brand of improvisation. The AV Action News, is a multi-media parody of the network news using green screens, live video and audience participation.

The improvisers interview an audience member, take the ideas generated from the interview, and transform the audience member’s life into a parodied news program with top stories, editorials and on-location remotes. High-tech tools such as a green screen and video cameras, along with some old-fashion stage play, are present during the half-hour long show.

The AV Club was first conceived of in July of 2002, during the Del Close Marathon at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York. Its creator, Andrew Cochrane, a recent graduate of USC’s film school and an avid improviser himself, was inspired by the UCB’s Neutrino, a group that uses video cameras in their live performances. In the summer of 2004, Cochrane met Chris Ellerby, a graphic designer by day and visual jockey by night. They decided to combine their film and TV technicians, along with some of Southern California’s premiere improvisers from the IOWEST — the Los Angeles branch of the world-famous IO Chicago — to form The AV Club. You can find them producing film and video projects on their Web site www.theavclub.tv.

Tickets for The AV Action News are $10 and are on sale now at www.westsideeclectic.com, or at The Westside Eclectic box office at (310) 451-0850\.
