*Edwin McCain, ‘Nobody’s Fault But Mine’*

*By RANDY WILLIAMS*

Veteran singer/songwriter Edwin McCain (seven albums selling over two million copies with such hits as “I’ll Be” and ”Solitude”) takes a break from recording his own material to deliver an album of vintage R&B and classic southern soul songs. With a Stax-flavored tune like “Happy Song,” “Some Kind of Wonderful” and a dozen other songs of a kindred spirit gives one the sensation of rolling down a two-lane Georgia road in a comfortable convertible on a sunny day. (Saguaro Road) Cannon Re-Loaded, ‘An All-Star Celebration of Cannonball Adderley’ The joyful melodic approach to the sax that has influenced generations of musicians is played with a lot of soul in this fine homage to The Cannonball. Joining together to provide a fresh interpretation of his music are jazz aces Steve Gadd, Marcus Miller, Dave Carpenter, Terence Blanchard, George Duke and Tom Scott among others. The chemistry of these accomplished performers produces a magical result of funk and bebop cuts along with the vocals of Nancy Wilson that made up the core of Adderley’s catalogue. Including such classics as “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” “Save Your Love for Me” and “Inside Straight,” this is a brilliant way to introduce his music to a new generation of jazz fans from top performers whose labor of love shows. (Concord) Bach, ‘The Best 100’ This six CD collection features music from one of the greatest composers of all time including: “The Brandenburg Concertos,” “Toccata & Fugue” and “Suite No. 1 for cello.” Johann Sebastian Bach was certainly one of the greatest composers of the Baroque Period. His flair for instrumental music was rich and melodic. A true master whose multi-faceted skills are on full display here. (EMI) Cassandra Wilson, ‘Loverly’ Turning in a different direction from her last album, “Thunderbird,” where the vocalist explored the outer reaches of jazz with a multi-layered sonic approach under the controls of producer T Bone Burnett, Wilson strives for a rhythmically driven collection of jazz standards with the help of a leading band of friends. Joining her on such grooves as “Caravan,” “Black Orpheus” and “Til There Was You” are Jason Moran on piano, Herlin Riley drumming, percussionist Lekin Bablola, Marvin Sewell on guitar and Lonnie Plaxico on bass. The home cookin’ production (Wilson converted a house in her hometown of Jackson, Mississippi into a recording studio) also features appearances by Reginald Veal on bass and trumpeter Nicholas Payton.
