Italian gelato chain Bacio di Latte has opened its second Santa Monica shop and 30th U.S. location at 1510 Montana Ave.

Founded in 2011 by Edoardo Tonolli on Rua Oscar Freire in São Paulo, Brazil, the company has more than 250 locations in Brazil and calls itself the world's largest artisanal gelato chain. It expects to reach 35 U.S. locations by December, with shops planned in Mission Valley, Los Cerritos, Walnut Creek, Manhattan and Scottsdale, Arizona.

The shop offers more than 22 regular flavors, made in-house daily, including best-sellers Pistacchio, Giandujotto and Cioccolato Belga, plus rotating seasonal specialties such as Crema Positano, which launched in September. The gelato is made with milk from Clover family farms in Sonoma County, fruit from California farms and organic cane sugar.

Customers can also order a signature upgrade, with cups and waffle cones coated in hazelnut and pistachio spreads, or visit an affogato bar pairing gelato with espresso.

Each shop is designed to resemble an Italian country kitchen, with hand-glazed tile, exposed wood beams and white millwork meant to evoke milk. Shelves reached by a rolling library ladder hold milk bottles, copper bowls, whisks and other tools. Playlists change through the day, from jazz in the morning to bossa nova in the afternoon and tango and electronica in the evening.

"Our journey has been driven by a passion for sharing the authentic taste of Italian gelato with the world," Tonolli said. "Each new store represents not just a place to enjoy our creations but a new opportunity to connect with more people and spread the joy that gelato brings."
