The National Trust for Historic Prevention has awarded the Santa Monica Conservancy with a $7,500 grant from the Los Angeles County Preservation Fund.

The funds will help support a portion of the rehabilitation costs needed for Santa Monica’s 1890s Shotgun House, a survivor from the early days of Ocean Park when many simple cottages were built for the visitors and new residents attracted by the city’s beaches and coastal climate. The small board and batten structure was formerly located on private property at 2712 Second St. and was landmarked by City Hall in 1999, according to the conservancy.

The house will be moved out of storage to a City Hall-owned property at Norman Place and Second Street and be used as a preservation resource center and serve as the base of operations for the conservancy.

“We are delighted with this grant … ,” said conservancy President Carol Lemlein.

Organizations or individuals interested in helping the project in any way, may contact the conservancy at (310) 496-3146 or e-mail info@smconservancy.org.
