The City of Malibu and LA County Library will host bestselling author and ultramarathon runner Dion Leonard Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Malibu Library.
Leonard will discuss his book "Finding Gobi," which tells the story of his 155-mile ultramarathon across China's Gobi Desert, where he met a stray dog that would change his life.
During the 2016 race, a small dog began following Leonard and matched his stride throughout the grueling course. The dog, whom Leonard named Gobi, became his companion to the finish line. When Gobi went missing after the race, Leonard launched a nationwide search to reunite with his running partner.
"The Malibu Library Speaker Series is an excellent way to celebrate art, literature, science, music and other cultural endeavors, that brings experts and authors to our community that will educate and inspire," Mayor Marianne Riggins said. "Dion's story is so unique yet universally captivating and it is truly a treat for everyone."
At the event, Leonard will share details of his journey with Gobi, the search to bring the dog home and the bond they formed. The book explores themes of determination, love and loyalty.
Books will be available for purchase at the event, followed by a signing.
The event is free with RSVP at https://visit.lacountylibrary.org/event/15337494. Additional information is available at MalibuCity.org/Speakers.
