Samohi’s boys’ basketball team hopes to defend its 4-0 Ocean League record this week with games against Hawthorne and Inglewood.

Coming off a thriller against Morningside at home on Friday, the Vikings will first host Hawthorne tonight at 7:30 p.m. and will travel to Inglewood on Friday.

The pair of league games comes at a good time, said junior Jordan Mathews, who won Friday’s game with a lay-up in the final seconds.

“We’re really jelling as a team,” he said. “We’re starting to be all about winning.”

Hawthorne enters the game 0-4 in league, but Mathews said he and his teammates aren’t going to let that into their minds as they prepare for the game.

“Those are the teams that you have trouble against sometimes,” Mathews said. “Sometimes they sneak up on you.”
