In partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Santa Monica Police Department is hosting an anonymous pill "take-back" event to fight prescription drug abuse.
Locals are encouraged to drop off expired, unused or unwanted medications at the Public Safety Facility, 333 Olympic Dr., this Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
In its six previous national take-back events, the DEA has disposed of more than 2.8 million pounds worth of prescription pills.
Lt. P.J. Guido said the SMPD collected 360 pounds of prescription drugs last year during take-back events.
