Gov. Jerry Brown signed two bills sponsored by former Santa Monica Mayor, Assemblymember Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica) into law last week.
Assembly Bill 1068 allows access to the pupil records of students 14 and older who are both homeless and unaccompanied for individuals who have signed a caregiver's authorization affidavit.
Previously, the law required parental consent or a judicial order for a person to access pupil records.
Assembly Bill 1213, Bobcat Protection Act of 2013, prevents the trapping of bobcats or the sale of bobcats in the area surrounding Joshua Tree National Park.
