The Santa Monica Community College District is accepting applications for a seat on its Personnel Commission.
The departure of longtime commissioner Dolores Press leaves one open position on the five-member panel, which is responsible for the bulk of district personnel decisions. Those include making sure that people are hired, promoted and retained based on the merit system.
Applicants must be registered voters in Santa Monica or Malibu and be committed to serving from Jan. 1, 2014, to Dec. 1, 2016.
