The Gesualdo Six, an internationally acclaimed British vocal ensemble, will perform at St. Matthew's Church on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at 8 p.m., according to St. Matthew's Music Guild.

The concert, titled "Queen of Hearts," features Renaissance music associated with influential European queens including Anne of Brittany, Margaret of Austria, Anne Boleyn and Mary Tudor. The program explores how 16th-century composers used music to reflect power, devotion and personal identity through the courts of these monarchs.

The six-voice ensemble will perform motets and chansons without instrumental accompaniment, emphasizing clarity of text and expressive storytelling through vocal harmonies. Contemporary works will be interspersed throughout the Renaissance repertoire.

Founded in 2014 by conductor Owain Park, The Gesualdo Six comprises six British consort singers. The ensemble has earned praise from critics, with Gramophone Magazine describing their performances as "ingeniously programmed and impeccably delivered."

The group's name honors Renaissance composer Carlo Gesualdo, known for emotionally intense vocal writing. While rooted in early music, the ensemble regularly commissions and performs contemporary works.

A free pre-concert talk titled "Liner Notes" will begin at 7:10 p.m., featuring ensemble members and host Tom Neenan discussing the music, composers and historical figures in the program. The talk is open to all ticket holders.

General admission tickets cost $45. Students with valid identification can purchase tickets for $10 at the door. Tickets are available at MusicGuildOnline.org.

The performance marks the first subscription concert at St. Matthew's Church since the Palisades fires in January 2025. The Music Guild's Chamber Orchestra will return to the church on March 20, 2026.
