Residents near the area of Wilshire Boulevard and Montana Avenue and Stanford Street and Centinela Avenue should expect water, gas and power interruptions through Friday night as utility crews work to repair a broken gas main in the area.

Santa Monica Fire Department officials have repeatedly asked via Twitter that non-residents avoid the area while utility crews complete repairs on the gas main rupture.

At noon Thursday, SMFD tweeted, “LIPTON AV Closed from CENTINELA AV to STANFORD AV. Please Avoid the area - use alternative routes.”

SoCal Gas was on the scene soon after according to fire department officials, who said repairs were estimated to be completed sometime between 7-9 p.m.

However, at 9 a.m. Friday, SMFD said, “Utility repairs continue in the area of Lipton/ Stanford. Residents/businesses in Santa Monica may smell and natural gas odor while crews continue to perform work.”

311 is temporarily unavailable, so residents are encouraged to call 310-458-4981 for assistance
