Brush fire ignites above Malibu

Los Angeles County firefighters are battling a brush fire on the slopes of the Santa Monica Mountains above Malibu.

The fire department said the blaze was reported shortly before noon Friday at Pacific Coast Highway and Sweetwater Canyon Road.

The fire has spread over 40 acres but is 30% contained and has not threatened any structures, according to the city of Malibu.

Firefighters are working on the ground and two helicopters are dropping water on the fire. Two air tankers have been requested.
