Caltrans will implement extended weekend lane reductions along Interstate 405 through the Sepulveda Pass, reducing the freeway to three lanes in each direction from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22.

The agency strongly encourages motorists to seek alternate routes and explore public transportation options during the construction period.

Northbound I-405 will be reduced to three lanes between Santa Monica Boulevard and just north of Sunset Boulevard. The Santa Monica Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard on-ramps will be closed.

Southbound I-405 will be reduced to three lanes from just north of Sunset Boulevard to eastbound Wilshire Boulevard. The Sunset Boulevard/Church Lane on/off-ramp will be closed, along with the southbound I-405 off-ramp to eastbound and westbound Wilshire Boulevard.

Caltrans recommends alternate routes for affected drivers. Those traveling from Santa Monica Boulevard to northbound I-405 should travel east on Santa Monica Boulevard and north on Sepulveda Boulevard to the on-ramp at Moraga Drive. Drivers heading from Sunset Boulevard to southbound I-405 should travel north on Church Lane, south on Sepulveda Boulevard, then west on Santa Monica Boulevard to the southbound I-405 on-ramp.

Extended weekend lane reductions will occur approximately every two weeks along various sections of I-405, with about 25 such reductions planned for this project. The schedule may change due to weather or operational reasons, including times, dates, number of lanes closed and other details.

Residents and businesses near construction areas may experience noise, vibrations and dust from construction activities. Current road conditions are available on the Caltrans Quickmap.

This work is part of the I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Van Nuys and Westwood communities along the Sepulveda Pass. The project allocates $143.7 million toward improving safety and mobility along I-405 while extending pavement life.
