# Chase ends with arrests

SUNSET PARK — Three suspected gang members were taken into custody over the weekend on drugs and weapons charges, after leading police on a brief chase through Pico Neighborhood.

Santa Monica police officers arrested the three around 7:10 p.m. on Saturday, after finding them in possession of methamphetamines and a loaded gun.

Officers tried to pull them over for a series of vehicle code violations when the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and a brief chase ensued, according to police.

While SMPD officers were following the vehicle, one of the passengers threw a handgun out of the window, which police recovered.

The driver finally stopped in the 2800 block of Pearl Avenue and all three occupants were arrested. Officers searched the car and found drugs and drug paraphernalia.The three were taken into custody and booked for being gang members in possession of a firearm and for various drug offenses, as well as for offenses associated with their participation in a criminal street gang,police said.

The men were identified as Benjamin Arroyo, 30; Guillermo Castell, 18; and Kevin Morales, 19\.
