Malibu Hosts Virtual Meeting on PCH Roundabouts Project Oct. 22

City Hosts Virtual Meeting on PCH Roundabouts Project Oct. 22
Published:

The City of Malibu, in collaboration with Caltrans, invites community members to a virtual meeting Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 6-7 p.m., to learn about and provide feedback on the Pacific Coast Highway Quick-Build Roundabouts Project.

"PCH safety is one of Malibu's highest priorities," said Mayor Marianne Riggins. "This project gives our community the opportunity to evaluate new approaches that can slow traffic, protect pedestrians, and make our roads safer."

The project proposes two temporary "quick-build" roundabouts—one at El Matador State Beach and another at Encinal Canyon Road—to improve safety and traffic flow. These locations were identified in the 2015 Pacific Coast Highway Safety Study examining collision data, traffic patterns and pedestrian conflicts.

The project aims to reduce vehicle speeds, improve safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, enable safer pedestrian crossings and parking near El Matador State Beach, and improve visibility and operations at the Encinal Canyon Road intersection connecting to Highway 23 and Mulholland Highway.

Construction is anticipated for early 2026, followed by data collection and performance assessment.

Community members can provide feedback using the online form on the project webpage.
