City settles class action lawsuit with lifeguards

Settlement: During a Jan. 25 City Council meeting, Interim City Attorney Joe Lawrence announced the settlement of a class action lawsuit regarding the underpayment of nearly 200 lifeguards. With Council’s approval the City will resolve the suit with a $350,000 settlement. The dispute pertains to a group of lifeguards who between 2015 and 2018 claimed that they were not reimbursed for working all of the time that they did nor for attending mandatory swimming trainings.
