Santa Monica will launch its 150th anniversary celebration at the annual State of the City event on Thursday, July 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Reed Park and the newly reopened Miles Memorial Playhouse.
The free public event features a fresh format with an opening reception hosted by Mayor Lana Negrete and incoming City Manager Oliver Chi. Attendees can enjoy live performances, art displays, music, activities for all ages and a beer garden operated by Santa Monica Brew Works.
The celebration will include city department booths, with the Department of Transportation team offering prizes and information. Visitors can tour the historic Miles Memorial Playhouse and experience interactive exhibits showcasing Santa Monica's creativity and community connections.
Reed Park is located at 1133 7th St. Multiple Big Blue Bus routes provide convenient access to the venue, with Routes 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 18, 41, and Rapids 3, 7, and 10 all stopping within a 10-minute walk of the park.
The city is offering free bus rides to event attendees. Passengers should inform their bus driver they are attending the State of the City for complimentary transportation.
The milestone anniversary celebration aims to highlight the elements that define Santa Monica as a vibrant coastal community while looking toward the city's future development and growth.
