Santa Monica will remain green at bargain prices. City Hall and electricAmerica, one of the nation’s leading energy service providers, have renewed an agreement under which electricAmerica will continue to supply renewable energy to the city’s municipal facilities into 2005.

The city will continue to receive “green” power from electricAmerica at discounted rates. The city began purchasing green power in 1998 and has consistently championed the environmental benefits associated with renewable energy. The agreement also offers the city guaranteed monetary savings on its electricity supply, as electricAmerica’s pricing is discounted from the local utility’s rates.

“This agreement provides the city with tremendous monetary savings and environmental benefits,” said Jeff Bailey, electricAmerica’s vice president of sales. “The city of Santa Monica continues to set high standards in energy policy.”

Soon after California deregulated its electricity market, city officials signed an agreement with electricAmerica to be its direct access energy provider in 1999\. Since then, the city has realized millions of dollars in financial savings on its energy supply and lessened its reliance on energy derived from fossil-fuel sources.

“With city budgets being so tight, we are proud to have negotiated an energy agreement that will save us money,” said Santa Monica’s Energy and Green Building Program administrator, Susan Munves. “We are also pleased that our electricity will continue to be derived from environmentally-friendly fuel sources.”

Commonwealth Energy Corporation, a power marketer licensed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, is an energy services company that markets retail electricity under the brand name, “electricAmerica,” in deregulated markets. Major market areas are Philadelphia, Penn.; Detroit, Mich.; New Jersey and California. Commonwealth Energy also is licensed as an energy retailer in other deregulating states.
