# Cleo Laine comes to Marina del Rey

Grammy-winning recording artist Cleo Laine will headline the Marina del Rey Summer Pop Series alongside her husband, Sir John Dankworth, on Saturday Sept. 1\. Cleo Laine is both a singer and actress, having enjoyed theatrical success, including a role as Julie in “Showboat.” In music, Laine broke into the British Top Ten with her 1961 single “You’ll Answer to Me,” and has performed alongside highly regarded classical musicians such as flutist James Galway and guitarist John Williams. Laine’s husband, John Dankworth has served as musical director for such artists as Nat “King” Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sophie Tucker. Dankworth was knighted in 2006 and Laine was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1997 by Queen Elizabeth.
