Pacific Palisades will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 7 Palisades Fire with a community-led remembrance ceremony honoring the 12 lives lost and recognizing first responders and volunteers.

The Pacific Palisades Long Term Recovery Group, in partnership with Palisades American Legion Post 283, will host the "White Glove Flag Presentation and Remembrance Ceremony" Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The ceremony will bring together community members, civic leaders and recovery partners to honor those who lost their lives and pay tribute to individuals and groups helping the community recover.

The event begins with a private remembrance and tribute program from 9 to 10 a.m., featuring a white glove presentation of flags for families of those lost and invited guests, with special invocation and music by the Palisades Symphony. The program will be livestreamed outside Post 283 on La Cruz Drive, where the public is invited to gather and view the ceremony.

A flag dedication follows from 10 to 10:20 a.m., featuring the American Legion Post 283 "survivor flag" flown during the fire. An Army bugler will mark the retirement of the historic Palisades Post Office flag and the raising of a new flag.

From 10:30 to 11 a.m., an honor procession and bell tribute will take place, with a color guard procession to the Village Green on Sunset Boulevard. Representatives from the American Legion, Army National Guard, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and select relief organizations will participate, accompanied by bagpipers. The ceremony will conclude with a ringing of bells and presentation of wreaths.

A community lunch will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Palisades American Post 283, located at 15247 La Cruz Drive.

All local Palisades organizations involved in wildfire recovery will attend. More information is available at https://paliltrg.org.
