PICO NEIGHBORHOOD — Santa Monica Police are searching for suspects following a possible drive-by shooting here Sunday that left one man in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the stomach and forearm.

The shooting occurred in broad daylight, around 2 p.m., in the 1800 block of 11th Street, near Michigan Avenue, said SMPD Capt. Alex Padilla.

Officers on routine patrol responded after receiving a call about shots being fired in the area. Once on the scene, the officers discovered evidence of a possible shooting and immediately canvassed the area for victims, but found none, Padilla said.

A short time later, a 25-year-old male gunshot victim surfaced at a local hospital. A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and a friend were standing on 11th Street when they heard gunshots. Officers said one man was hit and transported to the hospital before officers arrived.

Witnesses said they saw a brown vehicle leaving the area shortly after reporting gunshots. There was no further description of the suspects or the vehicle, police said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the SMPD robbery/homicide unit at (310) 458-8451 or the watch commander at (310) 458-8427.
